Frequently asked questions
Florida Homeschool Evaluation FAQ
Requirements and answers specific to Florida families — all in one place.
When is my Florida annual evaluation due?
Florida requires an evaluation every year, filed with your county school district superintendent's office. It is due by the anniversary of the date you filed your notice of intent, so check your own date.
Who can complete a Florida annual evaluation?
One of Florida's options is a teacher holding a valid regular Florida teaching certificate, selected by the parent. Your evaluation is completed by a Florida-certified teacher.
What does the evaluator review?
Your student's portfolio — the daily log, the titles of reading materials used, and samples of your student's work — along with a discussion with your student, as Section 1002.41, Florida Statutes requires.
How does the discussion with my student work?
The evaluation form includes Interview / Discussion Questions for your student. You can sit down together and answer them as you go.
Does Florida require standardized testing?
No. A nationally normed test is one of Florida's evaluation options, and a review by a Florida-certified teacher is another. Our evaluation is a portfolio review, not a test.
Where do I send the signed evaluation?
To your county school district superintendent's office. We email you the signed evaluation on its own, so it is easy to forward.
